Sometimes you need to slow down to truly progress.
Have you ever noticed that when you try to rush, you forget things and mess things up making things even slower? If only you had slowed down, things could have been done faster and better.
Have you ever noticed that when you want to speed up your work, go to more conventions, attend more meetings, stay up later and wake up earlier…what eventually happens is you get sick and everything comes to a stand still? If you slowed down a little, given yourself a better pace, you would still be at work able to achieve.
Both of these cases are from my own life but I’m sure you can relate. Sometimes when we get caught up in life and tasks…Allah Azzawajal is the one Who slows us down because He knows what’s better for us.
I remember when I started learning Quran recitation many years ago, my ustadha used to tell me…slow down, little by little, but do it consistently. I didn’t want to slow down…I memorized the Arabic huruf in one afternoon and the main harakat just as fast but then because I had not built the visual foundation of how to read joined letters…I struggle a lot…and I abandoned recitation for almost 2 years.
Sometime slowing down doesn’t mean less progress, it means building foundations, taking care of yourself, and getting things done right so that progress can continue in a way that is better.
So don’t be afraid of slowing down. Make dua to Allah Azzawajal to help you in your work, in your tasks, then do things the way that we have been advised by Prophet Muhammad Salallahu Alayhi wa Salem…in manageable chunks, consistently, over time.
Narrated `Aisha:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately and know that your deeds will not make you enter Paradise, and that the most beloved deed to Allah is the most regular and constant even if it were little.”
