Important Events in Ramadan

Historic Moments That Changed the Course of Islam

Ramadan is not only a month of fasting, worship, and mercy — it is also a month filled with major historical events that shaped Islamic history forever. Many of the most powerful moments in Islam occurred during this blessed month.

Let’s explore some of the most important events in Ramadan.

📖 1. Revelation of the Qur’an (Laylatul Qadr)

The greatest event in Ramadan is the revelation of the Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Allah says:

“The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’an…”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:185)

The first revelation came on Laylatul Qadr (The Night of Power), in the Cave of Hira, when Angel Jibreel (AS) brought the first verses:

“Read in the name of your Lord…” (Surah Al-‘Alaq 96:1)

This event marked the beginning of prophethood and changed human history forever.

⚔️ 2. The Battle of Badr (2 AH)

The Battle of Badr took place on the 17th of Ramadan in 2 AH. It was the first major battle between Muslims and Quraysh.

Despite being outnumbered (313 Muslims vs nearly 1,000 Quraysh), Allah granted victory to the believers.

Allah says:

“And Allah had already given you victory at Badr while you were few in number.”
(Surah Aal ‘Imran 3:123)

This battle proved that victory comes from Allah — not numbers.

🕋 3. The Conquest of Makkah (8 AH)

One of the most significant events in Islamic history occurred in Ramadan 8 AH: Fath Makkah (The Conquest of Makkah).

The Prophet ﷺ entered Makkah peacefully with 10,000 companions. Instead of revenge, he declared general amnesty.

He said:

“Go, for you are free.”

This event demonstrated mercy, forgiveness, and the triumph of truth over falsehood.

🕌 4. The Death of Khadijah (RA) – Year of Sorrow

Although not during Ramadan itself, the early years of Islam during Ramadan were closely tied to the hardships faced after the passing of Khadijah (RA), the beloved wife of the Prophet ﷺ.

Her support during the early revelations was essential to the strength of Islam.

🌍 5. Liberation of Jerusalem (583 AH)

In Ramadan 583 AH, Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi (RA) liberated Jerusalem from the Crusaders after the Battle of Hattin.

It was a moment of unity, patience, and long-term struggle that ended in victory — during the blessed month of Ramadan.

🌟 6. Many Scholars Were Born or Passed Away in Ramadan

Throughout Islamic history, Ramadan has also been a month where many great scholars were born, passed away, or completed major works of knowledge.

It remains a month deeply connected to the Qur’an, learning, and revival of faith.

🌙 Why So Many Important Events Happened in Ramadan?

Ramadan is a month of:

  • Stronger faith

  • Greater du’a

  • Increased unity

  • Deep spiritual connection

When hearts are purified, Allah grants victory and guidance.

Ramadan is not a month of weakness — it is a month of strength, sacrifice, and transformation.
